Arterial Disease

Arterial disease covers conditions that narrow, block or widen the arteries, such as leg artery blockage, narrowing of the carotid artery in the neck, aortic aneurysm and arterial blood clots. We always start with an accurate diagnosis, then choose the simplest treatment that suits your case before moving to more invasive options. In Amman, these conditions are cared for by Dr. Walid Naser, Consultant Vascular Surgeon and Peripheral Endovascular Specialist, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Member of the British College of Surgeons.

Note: A suddenly cold, pale and very painful leg, sudden weakness on one side of the body or trouble speaking, or sudden severe pain in the belly or back are emergencies. Go to the emergency department straight away; do not wait for a clinic appointment.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common signs of arterial disease?

Common signs include pain or cramping in the leg muscles when walking that eases with rest, a cold foot, and wounds that heal slowly. Some conditions, such as an aortic aneurysm, may cause no symptoms at all, so an examination is needed.

Does every artery blockage need a catheter procedure or surgery?

No. Many cases start with lifestyle changes, control of risk factors and regular follow-up. A procedure is considered when symptoms limit daily life or the limb is at risk, and the decision depends on the examination and imaging.

How can I know if I have an artery problem?

Only an examination can tell. Your doctor may request tests such as a Doppler ultrasound or an ankle blood pressure check. If you have symptoms or risk factors such as smoking or diabetes, book an appointment for an assessment.
